Foreword
Pile Capacity is the estimation tool for deep foundation designers dealing with the bearing capacity of cast-in-place bored piles (also referred to as drilled shafts) constructed in various soil profiles.
The application supports the following soil and rock models:
- Cohesive layers (clay and silt), characterised by undrained shear strength
- Granular layers (sand and gravel), characterised by angle of shearing resistance
- Weak Rock, using the adhesion factor method
- Weak Rock (Custom), allowing user-defined correlation constants and tip resistance
- Rock (Tomlinson), incorporating Rock Quality Designation (RQD)
- Fill layers, which contribute only to overburden stress
- Manual layers, where the user directly provides unit skin friction and unit end bearing values
The user interface is designed to be straightforward for seasoned pile designers; that means you don't really need to read this or any other manual. This manual simply exists to clarify the estimation methods employed by our software.
In the pages of this manual, which is prepared by an extensive research of the literature on the topic, you will find all references for the estimation engine utilised by Pile Capacity. There is also a detailed list of all references at the end of the manual.
